Guess whoâs back on the podcast with me today??
If you guessed Tom⌠you nailed it! Weâre talking about something thatâs been on Tomâs mind for a while, and that is a formula-like a âplug the variables into your equation and get a solutionâ type of formula. Weâre all for clean, cut and dry solutions, but as weâve learned (and Iâm sure you have too), thatâs not typically how life works.
In todayâs episode, we talk about why âfeelâ matters more than formulas. This is applicable from grazing to relationships and everything in between. Whether youâre working with cattle or another type of animal, or youâre working to improve your human relationships, there is no âspecialâ formula to make it work. Itâs important to understand that you do need to find your âfeelâ; this is going to vary with each person, as well as with the animal or human youâre connecting with.
Something else we dug into in our conversation is how you actually develop the âfeelâ with both humans and animals. Regardless of who or what youâre working with, having self-awareness and realizing that you play a key role in every interaction is vital. Observation and reflection come into play here, too, because the more youâre attuned to what youâre doing and seeing, the more that âfeelâ will continue to grow.
We hope this episode gives you more insight as to why âfeelâ matters more than formulas and helps you become more aware and curious (instead of judgmental) in your day-to-day interactions!

More about the Good Movement Draws Good Movement podcast:
In stockmanship (the art and science of handling cattle in a safe, effective, low-stress manner), we have this phrase . . . good movement draws good movement.
Itâs this thing that happens when we ask a small group of cattle, maybe a cow, or a pair to move out in a certain direction and their movement draws the whole herd into moving in the same direction.
Good movement happens when we approach the cattle with a positive attitude, read and really listen to what theyâre telling us, and communicate accordingly.
We donât approach the aware, flighty cattle the same as we do the tame, docile cattle. We adjust ourselves, our energy, and approach, and communicate with each differently.
These adjustments help us effectively draw good movement from each, which then draws good movement from the herd. But it starts with us.
The same is true for humans. Good movement starts with us.
Welcome to Good Movement Draws Good Movement, the podcast where farmers, ranchers, and rural folks can grow relationally through awareness, understanding, and effective communication.
Hey, itâs me – T. Iâm your host, and I, along with my guests, will be covering topics related to drawing good movement – things like self and social awareness, brain science, positive psychology, extending grace, and so much more.
Weâll share tools that can help you understand why you are the way you are, why others are the way they are, and how you can use that to step out of self-told lies with grace and compassion to draw good movement in conversations, relationships, and life in rural America.
Tune in every Tuesday and make sure to hit subscribe so you never miss an episode! Letâs go draw good movement!
