One of the most helpful things we can DO is just B One of the most helpful things we can DO is just BE.

BE available.
BE there.
BE present.

It’s often not the words, the gestures, or the gifts that are the most helpful to those who are grieving or walking some hard things.
It’s the silent, reassuring presence.
It’s someone who can sit and bear witness to the pain without judgement, assumptions, or solutions.

Talking more about this in ep. 134 of the cast-pod. Listen at the link in my bio or wherever you listen to podcasts.
Boundaries are one of the kindest things you can d Boundaries are one of the kindest things you can do for others because they are one of the kindest things you can do for you.

A couple weeks ago, there was yet another fire in our community and I was not in the headspace of recording a fresh episode. I talked it over with the wonderful @jillcarrpodcasting and she suggested a rerun of one of our episodes on boundaries.

And how fitting it was in a time when I needed to practice what I preach and set a boundary for myself to not try and force something fresh that week.

So if you tune into ep. 133 this week, you may have heard it before, but it’s still worth it. I know I needed to hear it again.

Listen at the link in my bio or anywhere you listen to podcasts.
It’s been three years – three years that simul It’s been three years – three years that simultaneously feel like only three days and a full thirty years.

I remember sitting outside on the deck in the days after you died, watching the red maple in the yard put on leaves.

The way the tree changed in those days was like watching a timelapse video, and honestly, life’s felt a little like that ever since.

Time passes both fast and slow.

Life kept moving although it felt for a while like I was standing still. And so much has happened.

I started a podcast to talk about the things we mostly don’t talk about, i.e. the hard things in life, feelings, and emotions.

The family has grown (a niece) and is growing (a niece or nephew this summer).

I grew a cancer. Then I got new boobs.

This March felt like a lifetime in itself with wildfires. We were actually evacuated over your birthday this year.

The kids have grown so much. It’s strange and also so awesome having a couple teenagers and a pre-teen around.

And Dad, I’ve grown so much.

I mean, I turned 39, then 40, and 41, but I also did something I didn’t even know I could do.

I sat with the pain, like actually felt it.
I befriended the grief. And it healed me in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

Oh and – I can run the hay feeder like a champ now. Not sure what happened there, I just got in it one day after not even attempting to run it for four or five years and picked up six like it was no big deal.

It’s been three years, and I’ve carried you with me every single day. Love ya see ya!

(If you’re reading this and wondering about my song choice, it’s from a core memory with my dad. And it’s how I remember how old he is.)
Survivors guilt is tricky because it’s minimizin Survivors guilt is tricky because it’s minimizing your experience of what you’ve gone through.

@tread_deepcounseling is back on the cast-pod this week, and we’re touching on things like survivors guilt, nightmares, and grief in ep. 132 – Disaster Trauma Recovery + Processing Grief.
