Speak kindly to yourself today (and always), frien Speak kindly to yourself today (and always), friend.

This is something I said in a conversation with a friend this morning. Thought it needed a permanent spot on the feed.
While there’s no way for us to know all the expe While there’s no way for us to know all the experiences and events that have shaped someone else’s perspective, there are lots of ways we can work to understand perspectives other than our own.

Talking more about perspectives in episode 140 of the cast-pod – tune in at the link in my bio or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Might be time to call @noahkahanmusic cuz the bugs Might be time to call @noahkahanmusic cuz the bugs didn’t die over winter and this spring looks just like autumn.

In all seriousness, things are looking bleak around here. The only green to be found is on sub-irrigated meadows or in the yard where the sprinklers have been running.

This past week has been windy and warm. We are still in fire danger on the daily. And it truly does look more like August than June.

The wind is maddening and the range depressing, AND it’s pushing us to think outside the box - challenging us to rethink ranching and how to keep the cows fed.

It’s also ushered us into even more intentionality surrounding our mental and emotional well-being. We can’t look outside without feeling sadness over what has happened and some fear over what’s to come.

It’s hard to see our beloved Sandhills so parched and in some places literally scorched. It’s hard, and we are not shoving those feelings down.

Tom and I talk about them regularly, bringing them into the light and air. Talking feelings and emotions isn’t something we’ve always done, but over the last few years we’ve come to understand the value in vulnerability with each other and the gift of grief.

If you’re looking for a safe space to let some things out into the light and air, my DMs are open. Do not hesitate to reach out.
“Grief is subversive, undermining our society’ “Grief is subversive, undermining our society’s quiet agreement that we will behave and be in control of our emotions. It is an act of protest that declares our refusal to live numb and small.” Francis Weller, “The Wild Edge of Sorrow.”

If you’re in the midst of grief you cannot hold and you refuse to live numb and small, I’m here. And my DMs are always open.
